Wedding Day Hair and Makeup Tips

This month for makeup tips, we turn to a great publication - the Bride's Guide.  This article has some great advice.   Look good, feel good - here goes:

BEAUTIFUL BRIDES

Makeup artists share tips on how to look great on your wedding day.

What makes a bride radiant?  Aside from love, joy and running on pure adrenaline, there's the inner glow that comes from knowing that everything surrounding your wedding is perfect and all the details are in place.  The outer glow comes from good, conscientious skin care and makeup that suits you perfectly.

From your first footstep down the aisle, to the final bouquet toss, everyone will want to see the bride's face.  So your makeup should have enough presence to play up your features across a crowded reception hall, yet be subtle enough to look beautiful close up.

Your wedding makeup should be different from your everyday looks.  However, wearing totally different makeup than usual, might make you feel uncomfortable.  Hiring a makeup consultant for this important day makes sense.  She can guide you on looking your best.

You should schedule appointments with makeup artists four to six months before your wedding.  Treat yourself to a full makeover.  This way you and the makeup artist can decide what works best ahead of time.  By planning ahead, there will be no surprises.  You might also want to treat your bridal attendants to makeovers.  this can be your gift to them.  Most makeup artists offer package deals for the entire bridal party.

Looking Pretty for the Camera

"Makeup enhances a face and defines its features, emphasizing the best and down playing the worst," says Mimi Field, a spokesperson for Clinique.  "Faces without makeup, on the other hand, appear washed out when photographed."  Clinique suggest that brides keep everything matte for a soft finish.  These shades absorb rather than reflect light and help minimize shine as well as little lines and imperfections.  Eyebrows tend to fade in photographs, so make sure to fill in and define.  Tweezing the brow correctly can make the eyes seem larger and open up the whole face.  If this is the first time you are tweezing, you may want to have it done professionally.

Eyelashes also tend to fade away in photographs.  Bring them out with an extra coat of  mascara, making sure that every lash is separated.  But first use an eyelash curler to make lashes look longer and eyes look bigger.

It's also a good idea to blend in base, cheek color and eye shadow because any visible makeup lines will seem more prominent in a photograph.  Also apply plenty of powder, since flash photography can also make you look shiny.  Have a powder compact handy for quick touch-ups.

Looking Radiant

In order to look radiant on your wedding day:

Flash Your Ring

Remember your hands will be on view, too, as you greet your guests, dance and flash your ring.  Find a good, greaseless, fragrance-free hand cream, and use it night and day.  Indulge in a good manicure.   Shorter, rounder nails in a pale, subtle polish look beautiful, photograph well and last well into the honeymoon.

Advice from Professional Makeup Artists

The best treat you can give yourself on your wedding day is an appointment with a professional makeup artist.  She will help keep you calm.  You won't have to worry about looking good.  She will take care of that for you.  She will arrive at your home or at the ceremony site before you get dressed to pamper you and your bridesmaids.
